PORTFOLIO
With the use of vibrant colors, I strive to create works of art that advance our capacity to be happy, thoughtful, reverent and hopeful.
“Paintings then, like ghosts, confront viewers through their impact and haunt them through excluded information... they invite both the impact of immediate sensation and the rewards layered through return visitations.”

ABOUT JOHN HOWELL WHITE
John Howell White has been a practicing artist for over 40 years. His work, in oils, acrylics, watercolor, and egg tempera, have generated paintings that document relationships between sensation and cognition. He has recently shown at Park Towne Place (2021), Scotts Mills Gallery (2021), the Archer Law Gallery 35 (2019), Provincetown Art Association and Museum (2018), In-Liquid (2017), Jefferson Hospital (2017), the Cotuit Center for the Arts (2016), and Maryland Hall (2014). His studio is currently based in the East Falls section of Philadelphia. He is the author of Experience Painting, a Davis Publication.
“John Howell White, likewise, layers his monumental unstretched canvases with paint, allowing carefully structured forms and freely dripping brush strokes to clash and create surfaces that pull you in with their depth and layers of color.”
